Coolest Holiday Parks for Kids

Splash zones, waterslides and outdoor cinemas; these holiday parks are the perfect place for family fun this summer.

Staying cool and having a ball at North Star Holiday Resort on the Tweed Coast.

The Splash Waterpark is the coolest place to hang out in Cairns.

1. Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort, Tropical North Queensland

There’s no other way to say it: this place is heaven for kids. There are two huge, resort-style pools – one shallow and ideal for kids, the other luxuriously fringed with tropical gardens and perfect for adults, plus hot and cold spas and a separate Splash Waterpark guaranteed to delight kids of all ages. Add to the mix an 18-hole mini golf course, nightly outdoor cinema screenings, a BMX track, an electronic games hub, an adventure playground, tennis courts and more, all set on 28-acres of rainforest-style gardens, and you’ve got a holiday park the kids will beg to visit again. If that sounds like your idea of the perfect family escape in the tropics, find out more information here.

Beware the giant bucket!

2. North Star Holiday Resort

The undisputed coolest holiday park on the Far North Coast of NSW, North Star at Hastings Point is designed with kids and parents in mind. Kids will love Sammy’s Adventure Lagoon waterpark complete with spiralling waterslides, and they can mix it with other kids at the supervised (and free) kids’ club on weekends and throughout the school holidays. That frees mum and dad up to enjoy the adults’ only Seascape Leisure Centre, offering massages, spa treatments, a 25-metre lap pool, hot spas and a sauna. Then get the family back together at the end of the day for dinner at the licensed onsite restaurant. The park is nestled between the beach and a crystal clear tidal estuary, so Mother Nature offers plenty of entertainment here, too. Plan your ultimate Far North Coast family adventure here.

A safe play oasis for kids of all ages at the zero-depth Splashzone.

3. Big 4 West Beach Parks, Adelaide, SA

For a family beach holiday just a stone’s throw from Adelaide with loads for the kids to do, Big 4 West Beach Parks is just the ticket. With 1.2km of beach frontage, splashing around in the waves couldn’t be easier. But there’s loads more than that to keep kids entertained. There’s a brand new resort-style swimming pool complete with waterslides, a zero-depth Splashzone suitable for toddlers and big kids alike, mini golf, a BMX/skate park, playgrounds catered to different ages and awesome barbeque areas overlooking the beach; the perfect place for dinner on a warm summer’s evening as the sun goes down. This park offers a kids’ club in the school holidays, and there’s an onsite café for parents to get their morning coffee fix. Find a range of accommodation styles including cabins, units and eco tents, or a caravan/camping site here. Plan your ultimate Far North Coast family adventure here.

Is there anything happier than a kid on a waterslide?

4. Easts Beach Holiday Park, Kiama, NSW

A sprawling 35-acre, beachfront paradise tucked amongst the rolling green hills of Kiama on NSW’s South Coast, Easts Beach Holiday Park is the perfect combination of natural beauty and kid-friendly facilities. Between the beach and the on-site facilities, there’s no shortage of ways to stay cool here. The newly opened pool facilities provide a children’s play area, a plunge pool, lap lanes and even a heated lounge pool to keep mum and dad happy. Then there’s Sunny’s Adventure Park; an all-ages splash zone featuring multiple waterslides and a giant tipping bucket that’ll have kids squealing with delight. There are multiple playgrounds including a play corner for littlies, and even a massage studio – because you’re on holiday, too.

Riding the rainbow in the Margaret River Region.

5. Mandalay Holiday Resort and Tourist Park, Margaret River, WA

Okay, so we might have a bit of an ulterior motive here and it has everything to do with this park’s location in the Margaret River wine region, home to some of Australia’s best vineyards as well as incredible restaurants, micro-breweries and more. But that’s not to detract from the fact this is an awesome holiday park for kids. Mandalay Holiday Resort and Tourist Park is located metres from the calm waters of Geographe Bay, where kids can play safely in crystal clear water that laps at the snowy white sand this region is famous for. There’s a heated indoor pool with a ‘beach’, an outdoor pool with a waterslide, multiple playgrounds and an indoor games room to keep the kids entertained when you’re done dragging them between farm gates and cellar doors. Plan your West Australian beach break here.

Giant jumping pillows are a common feature at kid-friendly parks around Australia.

6. Big 4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park, Alice Springs, NT

An oasis for families in the heart of the Red Centre, the Big 4 MacDonnell Range has plenty to keep your little ones busy. With multiple swimming pools and a waterslide, you’ll be lucky to drag the kids away from the pool area on those hot summer days, while you can find space to relax in the shade on a banana lounge. But just in case the kids do feel like drying off, there’s a BMX track, two jumping pillows, a playground and a games room. Your little ones can get to know their fellow campers over a game of basketball at the on-site court, or by hiring a pedal go-kart. Then, when they’re all tuckered out or need to escape the midday heat, quiet time can be had in the communal TV room. But this park, which is the most awarded in the Northern Territory, is most famous for its free pancake breakfast every Sunday. No kid is going to complain about that!
