May 2005
Dear Terry,
I have just returned from a trip up north for the 2005 Outback Cattle
Drive. I thought that I should let you know how impressed I am with
the new Cooper STT.
My trip took me from Melbourne, up through Central NSW, mainly, on
bitumen roads. The STT's were very impressive with their "on-road"
handling, I felt that they are not that far from the ST in both grip
& noise.
From Ivanhoe (in NSW) I hit the dirt, along the Cobb Hwy, with a lot
of sand & rocks. Once I deflated the tyre pressures a little, the
STT's seemed to revel in these rough conditions, with cornering &
braking proving quite safe, even at higher speeds. I travelled across
through Cameron Corner & Moomba on loose, sandy roads, & again
these tyres proved to handle extremely well. From Moomba, I travelled
across some private station tracks, following old seismic shot-lines
over soft sand dunes & clay pans to eventually come to the gibber
flats on the Sturt's Stony Desert. It was on these flats that I thought
that I may have tyre trouble. I was helping a couple of mates muster
some wild camels. I was driving flat-out across large gibber flats with
small creek gullies, sand dunes covered with Spinifex, and lots of large
rim-busting rocks. Wheeling the heavily loaded Patrol around sharply
trying to keep the camels moving in the right direction certainly tested
both the tyres & the suspension. The tyres came through without
any damage (the other Toyota was not so lucky, ripping 2 tyres to bits
over the rocks)
I can only say that these new Armor-Tek STT Cooper's are the best tyres
for these Outback conditions as they are certainly more than strong
enough to cope with the rugged terrain.
Sincerely,
Brad Newham
