In early 2001 we took delivery of a brand new GUII Nissan Patrol ST
3.0lt Turbo Diesel. As previously done with all my other 4WD's, I immediately
drove our new Patrol to the local Matthews tyre shop. In the past, I
have fitted a number of other off-road tires and have even kept two
separate sets of wheels - one set for the bitumen and one set for the
rough stuff. However, this time around I wanted to avoid the time and
hassle of swapping wheels every time we decided to head off-road for
a family adventure and so decided to exchange Patrol's stock road biased
tires for a new set of Cooper Discoverer S/T's.
Our Patrol has travelled almost 70,000 km over the past four years
and I am pleased to report that the Cooper S/T's have been absolutely
faultless. Most of this distance has been over a myriad of challenging
terrain including three holiday trips to Fraser Island, a complement
of 4WD training with the Toyota Land Cruiser Club (TLCC) and countless
trips to Stockton beach and the Blue Mountains. Many families who regularly
venture off-road with us will claim that they have witnessed us put
them to the test every time.
Whether it's cruising the highway, crawling over large rocks, or floating
over soft sand our Cooper S/T's have performed brilliantly, so much
so that all our friends have since fitted them on their own trucks.
At present, our Cooper S/T's have about 65% tread remaining and I am
confident that they will indeed see 7-8 years of total service life
and endure over 100,000 km.
The Cooper S/T's will definitely be our choice of tyre going forward,
given their unmatched durability, superior performance in most conditions
and overall reliability.
