Cooper Tires has launched the new Cooper STT, revealing the Armor-Tek3 ply carcass construction that's unique to Cooper.

ARMOR-TEK3 CARCASS CONSTRUCTION
Cooper has taken its outstanding two ply STT and added a third ply but not just a normal third ply.

In a normal 4WD tyre there are rubber gaps between the sidewall cords. The rubber gaps are the weakest point of the tyre. A nail, a stake or sharp outback grass can push against the sidewall cord, deflect off and penetrate through the weakest point (the rubber) and you get a flat.

The heavy duty carcass of the new Cooper STT, constructed of two radial polyester plies and one angled (at 8 degrees) polyester body ply, is now 33% stronger in the sidewalls and 2½ times more resistant to tearing.

This new innovative carcass construction is called Armor-Tek3 technology and it's unique to Cooper.

Here are the other features of the new STT, most notably, modern developments in the deep sidewall lugs, tread block siping and cut, chip and tear resistant tread compound.

SUPER TRACTION TREAD
The new STT's computer-designed, non-directional tread employs a combination of features including deep sidewall lugs, notched and scalloped shoulder lugs, and a unique centre traction zone to create a bold, aggressive tyre for serious offroad applications.

DEEP SIDEWALL LUGS
The new STT's aggressive tread design extends far down the sidewall of the tyre to enhance its soft surface traction and also provide additional "bite" in rocky terrain as well as maximum protection from sidewall damage.

TREAD BLOCK SIPING
Each row of the new STT's aggressive tread blocks is siped (tiny cuts in the tread blocks) to squeeze the water out from under the tyre on hard wet surfaces.

CUT, CHIP AND TEAR RESISTANT TREAD COMPOUND
The new STT has a specially developed tread compound that helps resist the cutting, tearing and chunking commonly found in extended outback use.

Australia played a pivotal role in the development of the new STT tread compound. Cooper analysed the results of a prototype set of STT's that were especially sent to Australia and were tested in an outback trip across Australia and back. Cooper also analysed feedback on the Cooper ST-C cut and chip compound tyre that was specially developed to achieve greater mileage on Australia's coarse rocky roads to develop the compound for the new STT.

SCALLOPED SHOULDER LUGS
The notched shoulder lugs of the new STT are scalloped so that one section always has a clear shot at fresh ground for superb traction in soft surface terrain and additional gripping power in rocky terrain.

TAPERED STONE EJECTOR
An integral stone ejector rib extends down from the centre lugs to the sidewall blocks to help prevent stones and debris from lodging between the tread blocks while contributing to the protection from stones damaging the tyre's steel belts.

RIM FLANGE PROTECTOR
Placed in the lower sidewall area, this feature helps protect the wheel and tyre from rocks and kerbs.

Now with sipes for wet bitumen grip

Tapered stone ejectors help prevent stones and debris from lodging between the tread blocks

FULL SIZE RANGE
The new STT will be available in a full range of high flotation and light truck 15, 16, 17 and 18 inch rim diameter sizes, and is being released in two phases. The first release of 12 light truck sizes is available now and the second release of 14 sizes is scheduled for mid 2005.
